The concept and overall application of this theme was actually pretty good, however, I could not deal with the manic-pixie dream girl love interest that is Kyle Kuan. Highlighter yellow hair? That she colors? With a highlighter? I cannot bro. Otherwise, I did like Kyle and Jasper; they were just teenagers shoved into a world that did not support them and aimed for capitalistic gain over the prosperity and safety of their citizens. I also loved the concept of their characters, even if the application was a bit wonky. Amnesia based on trauma and how that impacts Jasper's life (and also Kyle's) is such an interesting concept that could have been overdone, but I feel like it was just enough to make an impact without getting too much.
The world building too? That was wild, especially with the app that notifies people when they are near portals, gives coupons based on what portal interactions you have, and we kinda see it with the young boy that Jasper runs off when he catches him near the portal after a (fairly traumatic) event. I also loved the concept of the wraiths, and while the void behind the portals was not truly hell and the wraiths were not the four horsemen, it was enough like what we know to kinda explain the things we do not know. The emotions and powers they each held were very interesting, and also the demon Lara!
Overall, I just wish there had been more of everything. More character depth, more world building, more information on demons and the poor people they kept in the asylum, more on the hackers, and also more on the demons that were warning (?) them about the apocalypse.
